MEANING OF THE NAME
Bakhoura — also called "Mary's incense" — is the Arabic name for cyclamen. It is Lebanon's national flower.
STORY
The cyclamen grows only in the mountains of Lebanon — a flower found almost nowhere else on Earth. It waits beneath the soil through winter, then rises when the cold begins to lift. Fuchsia petals curve backward, bowing gently toward the earth. In Lebanese villages, there is a saying: like the cyclamen in the mountain. It means something precious that reveals itself only to those who look closely.
THE DESIGN
The Bakhoura is a floor-length embroidered open abaya in off-white Italian crepe, with pink cyclamen embroidery and hand-set crystal beads on the front panels and sleeves. It is fully lined and comes with a matching white sheila.
The cyclamen is worked in pale pink and white thread, petals swept upward, each bloom deepening to burgundy at its base. Heart-shaped leaves in two greens are edged in green crystal beads, and copper-brown stems connect flower to leaf. The design rises from the hem of each front panel and gathers at the cuffs, where the sleeve edge is cut to follow the leaves.
Italian crepe gives the piece a heavier hand and a fluid, unhurried drape. The body is fully lined, so nothing shows through. Embroidery is designed in-house and executed with precision. Every bead is set by hand using the Tambour technique.
Designed for Eid, weddings, and any occasion that calls for presence. Sizes S to XXL. The inner dress shown is not included.
