MEANING OF THE NAME
Ghimra is Yemeni Arabic for the coffee blossom — the fragrant white flower that opens on terraced mountainsides before the bean.
STORY
Before Yemen gave the world coffee, it gave the coffee blossom. Small white flowers, fragrant and fleeting, blooming briefly before the fruit that made the region famous. Most people know what comes after. This piece honors what came first.
THE DESIGN
The Ghimra is a floor-length embroidered open abaya in brown Italian crepe, with white coffee blossom embroidery and hand-set crystal beads on the front panels and sleeves. It is fully lined and comes with a matching brown sheila.
The blossoms open in white thread, six-petaled, each set with clear crystal beads. Deep green leaves and stems are lined with green beads, and between them sit small embroidered coffee beans in copper thread, the fruit that follows the flower. The design falls from the chest down each front panel; at the cuffs, the embroidery wraps the sleeve and the edge is cut to follow the blooms.
Italian crepe gives the piece a heavier hand and a fluid, unhurried drape. The body is fully lined, so nothing shows through. Embroidery is designed in-house and executed with precision. Every bead is set by hand using the Tambour technique.
Designed for Eid, weddings, and any occasion that calls for presence. Sizes S to XXL. The inner dress shown is not included.
